There was similar situation to the one Molly described but the siblings were reversed. The daughter, a couple of years older, had always watched their mother administer.
A few years later, the mother overheard the daughter taunting afterwards. She asked him if he wanted his sister kept out from then on. Much to her surprise, he said no, she could stay. He said he gives her the business, too, about other things, so it's ok.
Needling, and bantering among siblings is fairly standard behavior no matter what subject is involved, and usually the butt of the jokes can give as well as he or she gets.
They learn to deal with it among themselves, as we can be sure Molly did regarding her brother's teasing.
