There was poster in the past whose wife's niece, a newly graduated nurse, offered to be his private duty nurse when he went in for a his coming surgery. He accepted gladly because he had a long-time crush on her.
Later, as the day approached, he learned a lot more from her about what would take place in the hospital. He was
surprised when she told him she would come to the hospital early in the morning to "prep" him for the operation.
He didn't know what "prep" meant so he asked an older nurse, a neighbor, about it. She told him that before an
abdominal operation the patient is shaved from his nipple-
line to mid-thigh. He was shocked to hear that, and could not imagine his wife's niece shaving him.
He agonized for days until he figured out a way to get out of it without telling the niece why. He just "forgot" to call her when his doctor set a date and time of surgery.
He said it was embarrassing enough when a staff nurse did his prep, but at least he would never see her again. But
he couldn't imagine what it would be like having to face the niece a family gatherings for many years to come.
The point here is that it may be fun to fantasize about a relative, like Caleb did about his sister-in-law Amber, but the reality of it may not be what was expected, knowing that you the two would have to face each other in the future, many times. The reality may not live up to what was enjoyed in the fantasy, a least for some of us.
