My mother had a Davol folding syringe that she took on every vacation. It's rubber bag was made of very thin rubber which jiggled when filled. It was in a flexible plastic carrying case not much bigger than a glasses case. It came with a rubber hose, a single douche nozzle and a wire hook.
If any of us kids showed any symptom of developing constipation, the bag came out at bedtime and we all got an enema in our jammies.
Mom gave us lots of enemas and she had a pretty good idea of how much water we could take and if you couldn't take your quota, you'd get another enema after you expelled the first one to clean you out good.

Well, the pleasant memories of childhood holidays have been completely eclipsed by the suppository-insertions that seem to have occurred during every single one. In France, in Spain, even in Scotland and Wales - my bottom was never safe from the jellies and the soap slivers.

dear mary- my mother just like yours always carried a latex looking folding syringe with her on trips. she must have used it primary for douching after she and my father had sex. mother never carried it on trips when it was with my sister and i, only when daddy went along. anyway when we were on trips with daddy mother would always ask my sister and i if we were constipated or if it was on the first day of our periods she would give us warm water enemas using her douche bag and afterwards would clean the nozzle up in case she would need it the day for douching herself out. mother believed that teenage females needed enemas to keep themselves regular.
