 When I had a visible (although brief) erection that put an end to home enemas shortly before age 11, I never knew what my mother actually thought at the time. I thought I had done something wrong, that I had failed to control the situation, and that it was my fault for letting something "bad" come out. I didn't know whether she was thinking, "This is so bad that I can't find words to say anything about it," or whether she thought of it as a normal reaction of a boy my age. We never discussed the subject, and I never knew.
