When I was a young girl, my mother forced me into having high enemas daily for IBS. Luckily she gave them to me gently, very slowly.,Due to all of all these enemas I remember my childhood as being undressed on my bed with an enema nozzle double bardex type being refilled as I filled up again and again. This became the most loving activity as I don't remember hugs and laughter, only the enemas again and again. By 15 I began having colonics once a week outside my home. Truthfully I felt better on the enema regime but would not admit it to my mother.

Is a high volume enema better taken with a colon tube or a double bardex. What makes for better retention and how long should a high enema be retained without harm?

For Diane....

I take hi volume enemas with a long colon tube. As long as I am laying prone on my bed I have no trouble holding my enema as long as I want. But as soon as I get on my feet then I had better hurry to the bathroom or else I can often expect to unload before I get there.

For Eddy. with those high volume enemas, does anyone help get you into position and stay with you while you take them? I wondered how you got to the bathroom for relief without someone helping you? That's why I like a bardex, they stay put until you want them out.

Thank you for your interest Diane. When I use the JBL bag I take my enemas in the bathroom. So there is no problem there. When using the colon tube on my bed I have about twenty steps to the bathroom. I inject about 5 quarts or a bit more from colon tube. My colon tube usually stays in place until I get to the bathroom when I remove it. The urge to expel seems to not be overcoming my ability to contain the enema solution.

Quite often I take the first fill from the JBL enema. Then I fill my 6 quart enema bag with the colon tube for the second enema. If I have time I might take a third enema using the colon tube. Very seldom is the last enema as clear as I'd like to have it. If I think of it I will have a towel to catch any leakage that escapes while on my way to the bathroom.

My wife is not into enemas but has no problem with my taking them. And no she does not help me.

Eddy, what solutions do you use in the JBL and then the large volume enema? Whatever it is, maybe it helps you retain and tolerate such a big fill. I'm sure it feels great!

Diane,I always use salt in my enema bags. And sometimes a few drops of peppermint oil will be added. I take them really slow and i insert the colon tube as high as possible. I seem to be taking larger enemas today then just a few weeks ago.

There were a few years that I did not take any enema at all. But then I started taking them again as constipation was causing me problems. I found this computer site and others like it and gathered as much information about enemas as I could find. I started with about 3 quarts and gradually increased the volume until I now take nearly six quarts
