I think erections reinforce whatever feelings one may have developed about their enema experiences. When I received improperly sized and administered enemas as a kid for childhood illnesses, I had the image that some few other kids who said there was nothing to theirs were perfect and I was flawed. Later, in my 20s, when giving myself an enema, I would become hard thinking they handled it well and I should "learn" how to take improperly sized and administered enemas. I felt I had a sexual desire toward a number of them. However, it would sometimes eventually leave when I would realize that their BMs were no less smelly than mine, and that they probably didn't have superhuman skills in taking enemas.

Those feelings though can be long lasting.

As I said in my post above, a nursing advice columnist
was asked by a student nurse why males experience erections when she administers an enema. She was told that the reaction is caused mechanically by the pressure of the fluid on the prostate gland.

Lauren, in her post above, said her brother reacted that way, and later would have the same reaction even before
the procedure had begun. She correctly suggested that the sight of the equipment alone triggered the reaction once he made the association.

It seems to be like the Pavlov experiment. His dog would salivate when fed, of course, but eventually all he had to do was show the dog the food to cause salivation. We can probably think of examples in our own experiences where we react by association alone.

I've never believed that it has anything to do with the prostrate, and everything to do with anal eroticism, submission, being nurtured, and a host of other things that vary among individuals. The very mention of the word gave me an erection for most of my life; the mention that one was going to be given to me would make me delirious with ecstasy.
