Once again Switchablesusie has made a correct observation, that most people are capable of self-administering, but that is not the point. Almost anyone who is fortunate enough to have someone else to help them finds it better to have that help. In other words, just because you can do something does not mean you prefer to go it alone.
In the case of Callie's boys, I suppose that at their age they can do it, as Susie says, but is that the best way to go? It is very likely that they would prefer to have some help. Callie recognizes this, that's why she asked what the posters thought about her asking a male friend to do it.
But others have said, and I agree, that an outsider might not be suitable. If they need help, Callie might consider continuing to administer, after talking it over as Vera has suggested. She may also be able to work out a compromise, as b3 has suggested.
Callie can then administer, as long as they remain receptive to having her assistance. As Kyle said, he knows
of cases where such help was given well beyond their age.
It's a family decision and must be decided by Callie with input from the recipients, of course.
