I recently had a colonoscopy. Last time the perp involved the fleet oral meds, which, while easy, were not effective for me, and the test was not adequate. This time the prep used a gallon of mix, and a bottle of magnesium citrate. while drinking a gallon is no fun, the directions called for 3/4 of it to be taken the day before and the rest the AM of the test. This way I was able to sleep fairly well.
While it seemed effective in cleaning me out, I expelled a few small pieces in the AM, so to insure being clean I then took a very large enema, which went in surprisingly easily. No further solids were expelled. The test went well and The Dr said I was very clean.
This current prep is similar to that use years ago. It seems the easier prep tried last time just didn't work well for some of us.
While hard to take 3/4 of a gallon at a time, it does work!

I think you are right. It takes about one gallon of Nulytely to get me clean. I was going to just try 1/2 gallon of the Nulytely (i.e. like Halflytely - and I had taken four Dulcolax) but the returns were not clear so I keep taking the Nulytely until all had been taken. I also took some enemas to make sure I was as clean as I could make myself. Some people clean out easily and the Halflytely is fine for them and so are the pill preps.
P.S. The doctor's nurse went though about 100 questions before my colonoscopy. Among them was as question about the color of my last returns with the choices being, still getting some bm, brown water, clear water. I told her "none of the above". She gave me a puzzeled look and asked me what was coming out? I said green water. (I knew from previous colonoscopies that this was bile fluid and such was no problem). I have often wondered if the nurse would have given me an enema if my answer had been brown water ... or would she have sent me home. She was a young cute blond. I would have liked an enema from her.
