John McAuliffe and Margaret Kennedy had 14 children the youngest of which was my grandfather William Stephen McAuliffe who served in WW1. They took up land in South Australia were married in Gawler. William (Bill) married Annie Hickey they lived in Saddleworth South Australia and had one son, James Francis McAuliffe. he is my father an is still alive and lives in Waikerie South Australia. I have been looking for William's grandparents who must have come to Australia when John was young, his death certificate says he came from Clare in Ireland but we always thought he was from Cork.

>My father comes from a long line of first born sons who were given the name "William Joseph McAuliffe" continuously. I wonder if the William J. McAuliffe(s) you refer to are the oldest sons too. Might be a relation there?

seeking history of a David McAuliffe, reportedly an Officer in an Irish Unit of the British Military; stationed in Australia at some time in mid-19th Century. Either before or subsequently, sent to India after the Sepoy Mutiny in the 1850's. Of his nine children, the last two were born in the USA (New York). One of these two was my grandfather, James (1874)
