Even if the medical facility were located on the "outskirts" of civilization, provided that it's somewhere in the U.S., and the doctor(s) were board certified in this country, it would be reasonable to assume that modern techniques would be used,including taking vital signs.

I suppose that the availability of electronic thermometers would have any bearing on continuing to choose the standard glass thermometer to take temperatures. Although cost might be a factor, more than likely it would be a matter of choice.
That being said, locating a medical practice that continues to employ the glass thermometer to take the temperature of patients would be quite a challenge.
