Where did the new picture come from? It's obviously a military infirmary or clinic. Staged or real?

The nurse is a major. See her lapel. Do you think that poor little girl got her RT taken?

My first impression was that this was a staged photograph. You know what? This image should have been photo-shopped to show, say an 18-19 year old female patient or a somewhat older woman.

That sounds like a really stupid idea!

Perhaps it was staged; maybe not. The nurse major looks like she is probably a mom herself & almost ANYthing adults can do to distract these little people can be helpful.

I was in a military clinic one morning getting an injection in my arm. At the next table was a little boy (about 5-6) & his mom. I was looking away & the little guy called to warn me that the technician was about to jab me. I told the boy I didn't want to know when I got stuck. That seemed to surprise him. I told him it didn't hurt as much if I wasn't watching when the shot was given. We discussed that for long enough that the tech was able to get the boy's injection ready & give it (the tech had asked me to keep the boy distracted if possible) while the boy & I continued the discussion. The mom thanked us both saying it was the first time her son had taken a shot without a major battle.

I think the photo simply shows an experienced nurse engaged in good patient relation technique with a child.

It looks very much Photoshopped, although if it were real, it would have taken place at a service military clinic in the 1950's or 1960's. In that case, the picture would probably been taken in B/W and inferior quality. Privacy was a non-issue when rectal temps were taken or shots were given to child. Dependent patients, especially children, were considered objects to be disposed as expeditiously as possible.

It would be interesting to find out more how that picture was produced.

I mean I'm glad to see the photo for the site change every so often, but I have an issue using children. I'm sure kids today still have RTs taken, but that's not an area I think this board should concern itself with, be it in images such as this one (suggesting that a RT will be taken) or in text unless the poster is relating past childhood experiences regarding their RTs.

Is the photo vintage? Is it a new photo shoot? Is it a PhotoShop job? Questions galore, I bet. However!

The reason for the changes that just took place should be obvious by now. It's called responsibility. Other then that, I like mysteries. After all I'm the master of them!

As for the photo it's sticking around for awhile. It is most appropriate for this forum especially now. This forum was never established for adult content or pedophiles, although people over the years have tried to change it to that. The purpose of this forum is for you to ask questions or to share your experiences positive or negative on rectal temperature taking.

However I do understand the concern when the photo first went up without all the other changes completed.

I grew up in a military family and went to Navy or Air Force Family Clinics until I was 22. The setting in this picture is similar to what some of them looked like. Funny though, I never had vitals done by a Nurse. It was always done by a corpsman in my experience.

Having grown up as a Navy brat & then served 26 years myself, I visited military medical treatment facilities when I needed to.

True, nurses usually didn't get involved in mundane stuff like getting a temp from a kid. However, I remember several times that due to workload or in particular situations when a nurse (or sometimes a doctor), both military officers did get involved in or actually perform tasks that were usually performed by the enlisted technicians (corpsmen to the Navy & Marine folk). When a situation involved a child, anyone present who could assist would usually pitch in, as I described in an earlier post.
Staged photo or not ... enjoy what your eyes see & let your imagination finish the story in your mind for you.

What I would like to know is, was this picture taken before or after this kid got her temperature taken? Did she get it taken at all, or was it a staged photo?

If she did get it taken it says rectally loud and clear. From the rectal bulb thermometer, to the jar of Vaseline behind her for her behind.
