Mike I sid something similar in another thread. Parents today have tried to spare their children of embarrassing procedures. They wish to avoid their children developing the fetishes that we have from the procedures. The problem is that many children of earlier generations did not develop a fetish and those of us that did are not usually social deviants. I am happily married and have raised two children.
I know that I felt embarrassment and humiliation on most trips to my pediatrician. I had my temperature taken rectally until I was fourteen. I had most shots put in my bottom and I cried and screamed even at thirteen. The nurse on multiple occasions administered suppositories to me in the diaper change position. The final time I was twelve years old. I also received three enemas the last time I was twelve and two rectal exams the last at thirteen. My bottom was the star of most of my pediatrician visits. I may have been feeling mature and grown up like I knew better than an adult, but then I would go to the pediatrician and I realized that I was still a child.
Now although my parents did not spank they did not have a problem with me receiving spankings at school. I attended a Catholic School and received six spankings. Spankings were all in private but were bare bottomed over the teachers knee. I received two at age seven, one at nine, and three at age ten. I also received about six rectal temperatures from the school nurse, all but one were before I turned nine, but there was one at age ten.
These things led to respect for adults, nowadays that respect is gone.
