 I usually can tell that I'm coming down with something if I start sweating followed by chills. Touching the forehead isn't a foolproof method, but it's an indicator too.

I agree with Tim. Mom has touched my forehaed, and I used this method on my daughters too.
BTW in Germany some people say "if you think any thing is foolproof - you underestimate fools".
