 These posts are written by mainstream folks, who make all sorts of claims. It's the same thing as asking for advice on a legal forum. I can guarantee you that nobody there is a lawyer, but you will see everyone trying to rationale their imagined expertise when they answer a question. Same thing is true here. There are so many outrageous stories out there, and anyone who has been on this planet for at least a few years can see through them. Rectal temps. for adults, in medical facilities ? They don't even give them to kids anymore !!!

Tim - You're so right in your response. The last time I had my temperature taken rectally was by my mother when I was 8 or 9. Since then, I've had my temperature taken many times by doctors and nurses and it has always been orally. Btw, I'm a lawyer - I really am!!

Thank you for your kind words, Steven. The world that we live in is full of misrepresentation, wannabes, and mean-spirited characters.Off the subject of rectal temps., I asked an innocent and legitimate legal question on Yahoo, and was met with a slew of rude and judgemental critics, obviously not a legal scholar among them. Anyway, it's the stuff of reality on any forum. It just makes the decent and honest folks stand out more.
