I never got embarrassed having my rectal temperature taken as a kid. I often thought it felt uncomfortable, but being naked in front of my mom or a nurse never bothered me. But the first time my wife took my rectal temperature I was mortified. It also happened to me as recent as 3 years ago by a nurse, but I was too sick and weak to really protest much. I don't mind it anymore from my wife, over that now.But I still hate to have some young nurse take it rectally, especially if my wife's there in the room seeing it happen. That feels so awkward and degrading to me for some reason.

Usually I was lying in bed on my back when my mom would come in. She'd pull down my shorts and tell me to roll over. So her seeing my front was embarrassing. Plus, knowing what she was looking at when she spread my cheeks was embarrassisng, too.
