 steve so do i. i try oral it is like 97.2 and then will take it rectally and it will sometimes be like 99 something and sometimes i will have a small fever rectally and not orally. and i am asthmatic and get bronchitis alot and taking an oral temp when sick and coughing is not good cause i start to cough when the thermometer goes in so i started taking it rectally cause of that. i guess i do not mind doing it that way i am jsut worried if i get caught doing it that people will think i am weird and think i am mental for doing it that way. i am also afarid that people will think i am kinky or something or gross and i am not i just take my temp rectally cause of my asthma and coughing and that orally is not an option and under the arm takes to long and is not good either. sometimes when i tell people on line they say gross just take it orally and i say i canlt all i have here is a rectal thermometer and can;t get out to get another one. like i said i only do it rectally cause of accuracy.

You are NOT gross or kinky. Rectal is what works for you, and nobody needs to know. If you call or visit a doctor, you do need to inform them that the temperature was taken rectally, so they know, and they won't think you are weird. BTW, the "normal" for rectal is 99.6 degrees, not 98.6. It is the only way that gives me the consistent accuracy I require for metabolism monitoring. The newer ways of taking temperature were developed for ease of use and social acceptability, not accuracy. Unless it was considered "normal" for people's temperatures to be taken rectally, they would feel strange and squawk about being told to drop their pants to have their temperature taken. Hypothermia patient's temperatures are always taken rectally, because true core temperature can only be ascertained that way, and the goal is to re-warm their core.

steve i know it is not kinky but other people might think it is. and as for the telling my doctor part number 1 i usually do not get fevers so not a prob there and 2 people told me if i told my doctor that ido it rectally then they might have me commited to the psych ward for it. i only get fevers when i get stomach bugs so not to bad. and i do not see why people have a prob with rectal temps they are by far the most accurate and only take like 5 minutes.

My doctor was fully supportive when I told him I take mine rectally. He knows I am dealing with low metabolism, and has suggested possible ways of gradually raising it. I know the main two reasons for my low metabolism are low testosterone levels and low thyroid levels.
