 I think for small children rectal temps are necessary. Later there is no real reason to take temps another way than the patient preferres. I and my daughters prefer it rectally, others oral.

Having a thermometer under my tongue has always been uncomfortable for me. Since having my temperature taken in my bottom feels so good, my vote is for rectal 100%.

A very good question. If you needed a quick off the tongue answer it would be oral. However the more you think about it rectally is definity more comfortable. With an oral the tip wheather it be glass or digital is poking into your mouth and its very irrigating. With rectal the thermometer just sits incely in the rectum with its cool sensation, its pretty good. Rectal is definity more comfortable.

By the way I am looking for someone preferably female to dicuss rectal temp expeeriences and views with via email if anyone is interested.
