Getting an accourate oral temperature reading when you are
congested with a cold or coughing heavily is almost
impossible. Ear thermometers are not all they were
cracked out to be and axillary temperatures are just a
measure of skin temperatire. Rectal is the only practical
method for a cold or flu.

I totally agree! A rectal temp, although it feels kind of funny or weird s still more comfortable to me than oral! My parents took it rectal till I was 6 or 7 after that the only thing that they would insert rectally was suppositorys which I got all the time & hated it! I always cried w/ those yucky things but was ok w/ tha rectal temp! Didn't like rt's as a Lil child b/c I remember crying @ the dr office when it was done, but I was Lil and didn't understand! Now I only cry when I'm sick but it's still the best & my choice! Now that I'm married my sweet husband does it! Sometimes if he thinks I might have fever he gts the rt, pats his legs & very sweetly motions me over to him! He is very gentle & I don't mind! Actually I kind of enjoy it!
