In reply to: BM 's message, "German Fever Thermometers, very sad." on Monday, September 12, 2011, 05:16: am

In France, rectal was the only way that a temp. was taken, on everyone. In Germany, I understand that they used the axillary or even the oral method, especially on adults. When I traveled through europe, I was in Spain, and developed a fever. My temp. was taken under the arm. I don't know if the european community has eliminated rectal temps., especially for adults. I presume that medical care has been updated in most parts of the modern world.

I wonder if Germany, to be consistent, has outlawed those new "environmental friendly" light bulbs that contain mercury? BM, agree with you. What a waste and an hysterical over-reaction to a substance and an instrument safely used millions of times for 100 years!

No, it hasnt. The old bulbs are no longer sold. This was decided for all European Community at Brussels - I dont know by who.
You dont need rectal temps to know some (if not all) "professional Europeans" are insane.

I'm planning to travel to europe next year. Can anyone advise me as to where I might be able to find an older style rectal thermometer, or have they been completely removed from all stores ?
