 do the above post yes and i can add 3 more that still can require a rectal temp no matter if it is a 2 year old kid or an 102 year old adult

1st off asma i have a frend who has this and uses a asthma breather he is a good guy motly health and one of the frens i go to the yearly air show or car sho with OR both .

with the as the cathrien a said with the tripple wammy we have had her in texas all summer and records smashed.

that being more then 80 das of 100 PLUS degres 45 or so of 105 straight the no ran at all and the wild fies that made world news the bare creak fire and the bastrop fire.

my frend who lives not that far from the bare creek fire ened up 3 tims in the ER with a bad asthma attack do to the super dry condishions te heat and the smoke and each time he got at least 1 or 2 body croe temp reading the ear one as he get in and on juat as he was leaving to make shure all was ok.

the 2nd is like again cathrien A said i my self had a bad illness this weekend .

had a 48 hr bug i could not eat anyting for 36 hr if i did all i will say is i would toos it back up .

so i felt as if i had a temp cecked it rectally on my self and yep a temp of 102.4

and the last thing i can think of is if your like me a person who breathes through ther mouth and not the nose as much and has a bad gag reflex a rectal is more of a confert ( no pun ) this way you do not have to fear gaging being shoort of breath or both you can in fact tell the person who is taking it what your symtoms are .

It's really difficult to get any more accurate than taking a temperature by way of the rectum. Ear and forehead scanners are only accurate when "other conditions" are perfect. An ear reading is often useless when there's an infection or severe congestion. Sometimes a forehead reading is altogether unobtainable because the temporal artery is not easily readable or at best innacurate in certain individuals.
My nurse wife knows this, which is why she's started taking all of our temperatures rectally in my family. If I think I'm getting sick, she'll feel of my forehead to see if I'm getting warm. If she says she needs to take my temperature, I automatically know to drop my drawers and roll over onto my left side while she's getting the thermometer. Rectal temperatures need not be such a squeamish issue if people actually knew how useful it is.

It would be next to impossible these days to take someone's temp. rectally, unless they were really out of it. I would imagine that the idea is totally off the wall for someone under let's say, 30. I know from experience that pediatricians within the past 15 years perhaps, become furious if you disclose that you took a child's temp. rectally. When my youngest daughter was 7, during the mid 90's, I had such an experience. The way the doctor scolded me, I was sure that she was going to have me charged with child abuse. Interestingly, the digital oral thermometer registered a normal temp., while the glass rectal thermometer registered 103. Had I not brought my daughter to the ER that night, I believe that she may not have been so lucky. The early antibiotic treatment made a difference.

I could Only imagine what that said. I completely agree with you. Rectal does not lie, There is no way to alter the results. Thank goodness I have nurse friends who can honor and agree with my wishes. Thank you for bringing this to light.
