After my tonsil surgery, I got an infection and had to be put back in the hospital. My whole face, neck, and both ears were inflamed. My nurse knew she couldn't get an oral or ear reading, so she decided to take it rectally. My wife was in the room with me. The nurse explained the situation and I was in shock. My wife said my face turned red as a beat when the nurse told me what she was going to do. I was so humiliated having to get a thermometer stuck up my butt by a cute, young chic like this nurse was. My wife's also a nurse and knew the drill. So she encouraged me to roll on over on my left side and pulled my underwear down so my butt was shining, then unbuttoned the back of my gown while the nurse lubricated the probe. I looked back in anticipation to see what she was doing, but my wife kept telling me to "just try to relax, don't tense up". The nurse said "it's not that bad hon, it'll be over with in just a minute." This felt awkward and humiliating.... My wife was helping a female stranger who was about to see her husband's butthole and stick a probe up it..... I felt a gloved hand raise my right cheek, then a cold slight pressure as the probe pushed past my sphincter and up into my rectum. It must have been up there about 2", and I was shaking like a leaf the whole time. She took it out after only 45 seconds, registered the reading (101.8F)"he's still running a little warm", and discarded the probe sheath. She said "see there it wasn't so bad now was it?" I about started crying because of the humiliation. She asked my wife if I was going to be alright and my wife said "he's just bashfull, he'll be fine". I'm perfectly fine letting a nurse take my rectal temperature, just not in the presence of my wife. I don't know why, but it just feels odd and uncomfortable for another woman to be looking at and penetrating such an intimate part of my body with my wife watching. I wished she would've just let my wife take my rectal temperature in the room privately and I'd thought nothing of it.
