 Leave it to the Brits to come up w/ something like that. Back in the 60s there was a number of British comedies called the "Carry-On' series, one being "Carry-On Nurse" which alluded to a Rectal temperature taking.

From what I've heard, the Brits aren't into rectal temps., and see it as "nasty and vulgar." On the other hand,their sense of humor, dry as it is, has a clever and creative side.
