 I can definitely relate to the idea that rectal temperature taking is cute and never thought twice about trying to get a child up on that exam table so I could stick it in their butt. I saw it as being one of the perks to my job.I was often surprised at how sheepishly many of these women followed my orders and I took full advantage of that.Never once did the doctor complain about me taking a child's temperature rectally no matter what their age was.I would write down what the child's temperature was and whether I took it orally or rectally in their chart so he always knew.There were many times where I had a child who I knew was old enough to get it taken orally but I took it rectally for my own amusement.
