So what happens with the 7-year-old girl? She gets an oral temp although 2 years younger? Doesn't seem fair. But to answer your question, there is a big difference between feelings and actions. Accept your feelings for what they are, but don't let them lead you to taking a temp that isn't needed. That would not be fair to the boy and could get you in trouble. But if the child is sick, take his temp as directed. Let us know what happens.

If this is a legitimate post, babysitters should not have to be taking kids' temperatures. This is what parents are for. If you absolutely need to do this, I'd ask the mother why a rectal? Absent a compelling medical reason, kids this age should not be subjected to having their temps taken this way.
