My temp was never taken by a male. It was taken by females (usually Mom) until I was 10 or 11 - then I was taught to take it myself. About 8, Mom told my if I wanted I could change to armpit - but as Mom. Grandma and my older sister Helen thaught rectal to be better and used it for themselves I preferred rectal too.

My mom always took the temps in our house. Mine was taken rectally until the age of 9 or 10. As an adult, I always take mine rectally. Sure it's more accurate but it's also more fun!
