For my experiences, mom was the homemaker and health caretaker in our family. Dad was a hard working man, and he took care of the house, yard and the bills. I think if he was put in the situation of having to take my rectal temp, he would have taken it to ensure that I was not running a fever. The situation never occured that I can remember. Also being the only girl in the family, I bet that mom gave him the fullscale instruction's on how to perform the procedure. Besides as Rada explained it, we have all accidently (maybe purposely)seen our dad or brother's naked.

My rt was taken when I was a really little kid, but never again until once when I was in my teens and got sick at a friend's house, where rectal was used for accuracy reasons, according to her mom. I thought it would hurt but it felt great. Nothing like I expected it to be. In my family, nobody ever had a rectal temp. taken past like 5 or 6 maybe. At least I don't remember it. I didn't even know that anyone would have a rectal temp. taken until that experience that happened later. I found this site by curiosity, and was surprised to see how many adults take rectal temps. on themselves and their kids.
