Some of us are a bit cool, others warmer. My normal (O) usually runs a tad cool, 98.2-98.6, normal (R) rarely above 99.8. If I'm 100.2(R) or above, it's likely I have a low-grade fever. For example,Friday, we had a high here of 95 degrees,and it lowered to 80 at night- my rectal temp when I took it was 99.8 R. I agree,with Tom,rectal temps are more convenient than oral-just drop your pants, and stick it in. But I only take rectal because it's more accurate. Rectal temps are the most accurate method of temperature taking, more than oral, tympanic, ear, or forehead temps which are coming into play today with those new forehead scanning thermometers that just came out.
