It would be impossible to remember the first, like others have stated. Growing up in the rectal temp era, going to the doctor's office always included a thermometer in your butt. So it was just expected procedure, and nothing out of the ordinary, so one wouldn't remember any specific details unless something unusual happened. At home it was the same, and my mom switched me to oral at a much earlier age, so there was nothing memorable about it during the years I got it at home (until about age 7 or 8).
I remember the incident of being left alone in the exam room with a thermometer probe in my butt at age 5. I remember this because it was very scary to be left alone at that age, and especially with something in your butt. It was a digital wall mounted thermometer, state of the art for then, and the only one I ever remember being used on me (and I had RTs at the doctor to age 12). I remember being walked in on one time by a family, and one time by the doctor, and the last years being frustrated at still having my temp taken rectally.
