 my pediatrician's office was kinda the same way, but there there were about 5-6 doctors in that pratice and according to which was your doctor they decided at what age that you get the switch from the butt to the mouth.
I had the doctor that was an old fashion one, and you got rectal up until 13 at least. At the time I did not realize that the way that you could tell if the other kids where getting it that way was when you were in the hallway getting weighed in there underware that they were getting it taken rectally.
It was always like this, the nurses knew who got by a mark on there file the way it was done, the nurse would come into the waiting room and call your name, and you would follow her to the hallway and she would tell what color door to go to, upon entering she would tell your mom to strip you down to your socks and underware and then leave the room for a min. She would come back in and bring you out into the hallway to get weighed then take you back into the room and tell you to hop on the table so she could take your temperature, (depending on the nurse, would be told to turn on you belly or on you back in the diaper position up till around 8 for that) anyways you could watch her shake down the thermometer and put some lube on it and do the deed.
around the age of 10 or so I fiqured it out when i saw a kid from school (not in my class) getting weighed in his clothes, I did not ask him why but asked my mom why and she told me that some kid got switched to the mouth eariler than others. by that time i was using oral at home unless the doctor wanted the other way, i did ask the nurses if i could switch and they told me that the doctor won;t let us yet.
But i don't remember being embarrased at the doctors about it, except for this one time I was about 9 and i was really sick with mono or something bad and up unitl 10 or so I was a bedwetter and wore diapers for it, and mom just kept in diapers for about a month, but anyways mom took to the doctor's office in a diaper and remember seeing kids of all ages there seeing me in my diaper out in the hallway getting weighed, and to beat all my temp was taken in the diaper changing position lol, but it has not scared me.

Was it taken in the diaper position because they rediapered you after it was taken? Or did you just rediaper yourself?

i guess it was taken that way was because i was in a diaper, i remember being so sick that i could hardly walk around, and it was easier cause they had to open the diaper anyways, i remember that my mom put a new diaper on me after that. this was back around 1990 when this happened.

pretty much the whole time, since i was a bedwetter anyways i was use to wearing them and "using" them, i was so sick (I did not even want to get out of bed at all)and they kept me doped up so much i really didn't care either when i was awake i would just let it go, the meds did stop me up a couple of times and mom slipped some laxs so i did end up pooping in them a couple of times but the rest of the time when i needed to take a dump the diaper would come off. I really hated having a dirty one on

well mom stopped using diapers on me when i was 10, and the last time I wore one was when i was in the hospital around 13, it was on my chart that I was a bedwetter in the past and i was put into diaper while i was there, appdenix out then so for 1-2 days but i do not remember using them,lol.
So no more diapers for me, but i do have a friend who due to an accident is inconitent which has shed a light on people who have to wear them but it has not change him at all and is just a normal person like you or I.
I will always remember when mom was pulling up to the doctors office and i would get this feeling in the pit of my stomache and would have it all the way through until it was time for the thermometer to go into its place so to speak. i alway hated it when I did get it while laying on my stomache that the nurse would always hold in place, like it was going to go somewhere and talk to mom like you weren;t even there.

Did you get suppositories also? Were they given in the diaper position? When you wrote your mom slipped in some laxs were those suppositories?

I don't remember any suppositories givin but that don't mean that there wasen't. unless I was stopped up so to say it was usually givin in liquid form, M-O-M, other than that I did have a few enemas if i was stopped up, last one that i remember was around 7, and yes i was diapered after that(once i did not make it to the toliet so it was easier for mom if she just put me in a diaper) and I just used it.
back to rt's I've trying to remember the last time that i had it taken at the ped's office, I remember it was my last and my first oral the same day, the nurse had taken me back to the room and had me strip down to my underware as normal, she came back to the room, got my weight as such and went back to the room, I just hop up on the table and layed down on my stomache, watched the nurse prepare the themometer by shaking it down and lubing it up, coming over and pulling down my underware just past my but and parting the ways and sticking it in and proceeded to hold it in place between her fingers with her hand resting on my butt and talk to mom. when she was done she removed the thermometer wiped it down read it and was recording it on my chart, she then looked at it for a second and said looks like someone can switch to oral. She looked at me and asked if I knew how or wanted to learn how. Which I said yes if it mean no more baby temps for me(boy I wish that i had said no), so she checked it oral also that day, after that unless needed it was oral.
