 For me, my rectal temp readings could vary from 99.2-99.8 depending on my activity level,hour of the day,outside temp. For example,Friday, we had a high here of 95 degrees,and it lowered to 80 at night- my rectal temp when I took it was 99.8 R. I agree,with Tom,rectal temps are more convenient than oral-just drop your pants, and stick it in. But I only take rectal because it's more accurate. Rectal temps are the most accurate method of temperature taking, more than oral, tympanic, ear, or forehead temps which are coming into play today with those new forehead scanning thermometers that just came out.

rectal temps are more accurate. the other ways are nt as accurate. they are used because nurses dont want to take teh time to do rectal temps. Kids dont like having rectal temps unless its my son who does not mind doing his rectal.
