 The speculum my gyno uses has the handle up with an attached light. The light's handle hangs down and is back enough to clear the thermometer.

I've never had my temp. taken rectally by an ob/gyn, or any doctor after age 5. An rt is something very sensual because of all the nerve endings back there, but not everyone enjoys it. I think that the anus is still so taboo with alot of people, and they wouldn't dare think about that body part being used for anything sexual. Maybe it's also something that you have to develop an appreciation for, like a fine wine.
