My roommate in college took my temperature rectally also, although it was not planned. I thought I was getting sick one night as I felt kind of warm. He said it wouldn't be a good idea to go to classes the next day if I was running a fever. Neither one of us had a thermometer, so he went knocking on doors on the dorm floor to try to get one. He came back 15 minutes later and announced he had good news and bad news. The good news was that he borrowed a thermometer; the bad news was that it was rectal. It was the only one he could get. It sort of shocked me but, being roommates, we had seen each other naked before. He told me to lie down on my belly. I watched him shake down the thermometer and put on the vaseline. He took down my underpants and put it in. I had a slight fever. I took some tylenol that night and the next morning he took my temperature again. It was a little over 99, so I toughed it out and went to class. It was the only time it happened.

I would have to disagree that a 99 temp rectally is a "slight fever" as rectal temps can vary between 98.6-100.4. Besides, tenps vary at various points of the day. I don't even regard 99 orally as a slight fever. Anything 100 and above orally is considered a fever and anything 100.4 rectally is considered a fever.

I would have to agree my RT in the afternoon most days is 99.6 to 99.8 and if i have been working out etc it can be 100.0 even.

its not a fever till its 100.4 or more rectally.

My RT after exercise last week was 101. I came down with a mild case of the flu, and didn't realize it until I started to sweat like crazy. I suspended my workouts until later this week. As far as getting roomates involved with my rt, I've never given it a thought, and had no desire to. If I had a female roomate, that may have been different.

I have to agree there. Sometimes,my RT can be that at night, and then it drops to 98.0-98.9 while I sleep.
