I'm with you Rick.This boy was too young to cooperate or even understand the instructions.His father commented that "He's used to the ear thermometer" which signified that his temperature was not even taken "orally" at home.There was no way an accurate reading could be obtained in this child orally.As far as "politically incorrect goes",one has to use common sense in these matters.My temperature was taken rectally at home to age 6 and I suffered no ill effects from it.I was in the hospital at age 12 in the pediatrics wing and had many rectal temps from the nurses there.This little kid would not have been so "sassy" with the probe in his bottom,I can tell you that.The nurse would have gotten an accurate reading and it would have been over in no time,and forgotten.
