 It shouldn't hurt or cause physical discomfort if there is a fair amount of lubricant used and the person actually inserting the thermometer, has first explained the procedure, knowing it will be your first time as well as inserting the thermometer gently, slowly and at a proper angle. Good luck.

I think the discomfort depends on the temp-taker, and the patient. I took one gf's temp. rectally, and she said it felt great. I was gentle, and used plenty of lube. She had memories of painful rectal temps. taken, even during her teens, by her mom. Getting off the subject, though, Yelhas, how do you know that you will be getting a rectal temp. taken, and what was the reason given for it ? Also, what country do you live in ? Rectal temps. are very uncommon today,especially after age 2.
