i do not want to have my temperature taken rectally or have anyone else do it for me. it just hurts too much. i'm 37 years old now. about a month ago i was taken to the er for stomach pain. the nurse took my temperature orally and noticed that it was over 101. she then told me that i was going to have my temperature retaken rectally. i cried the whole way through and afterwards. it just hurts so much.

I don't understand why your temp. would be taken rectally under those circumstances, especially as a rational adult, who was apparently conscious and alert at the time. Is there something missing from this story ?

Nothing is missing here. I still go to my ped (I know it sounds weird) but he always ordered rectal temps. So, at the hospital, they went by what I had in my chart from my ped.
