Again, the medical community kind of sets the pace regarding technology, which in this case includes temperature taking in modern times. As with other forms of outdated technology, why would someone choose to listen to music with a bulky 8-track unit, when they can use a featherweight ipod, which produces superior sound, and is very easy to use. Glass thermometers are antiques, impractical, and pose a danger. If you suggested to a qualified M.D. or healthcare worker, that glass thermometers should be preferred over digital, they would probably consider that to be sheer ignorance, and would consider your ideas to be "old-school." As I've said in my original post, I would have reason to believe that 95% of the American public takes their temperatures digitally, and not rectally.
