In situations where an athlete's life is put in jeapordy due to heatstroke, it's better to be safe than sorry, and if that necessitates a rectal core temperature, then that's what should be done. From the images I saw, my only comment is, give some consideration to the modesty concerns of the athletes with some type of curtain separations if that idea is practical, especially for those who, though under the stress they are, such a concern mighth be nill ;might otherwise be reluctant to have such an intimate procedure carried out in the presence of others.
