I remember as a kid when I had finally mastered the oral method, being able to hold it under my tongue without clenching on the thermometer. At my next doctor visit, when it was time to "take your temperature" I told the nurse I could do it orally now. Well, there she was, with a jar of vaseline and the rectal kind already lubed and ready. And she was the type that always put a big dollop of vaseline on the tip of the thermometer, with little peaks like on a pie. She frowned and said she'd already prepared "this one" (obviously!) and was in no mood to switch methods now! There I was, stark naked lying on my stomach with my bottom all ready to be violated. You're not exactly in the best bargaining position to have your way at that point. So I quietly sulked in humiliation as she went ahead and poked it in my bottom anyway. I was not a happy camper that day!
