My temperature was taken rectally at the doctor's office when I was young, but never as an adult.
I was 9 the last time my temp was taken rectally at the doctor's. It was followed by a rectal exam, all in front of my mother. Very embarrassing !

I don't think so. Usually they don't give enemas before the birth unless the woman ask for it. But my wife doesn't like enemas at all... She got an enema 2 years ago before an X-ray exam.

Enemas don't seem to be frequently used in France. For constipation, we usually use suppositories. I often gave suppositories to my wife during her pregnancy. I never got enemas from my mother when I was a kid.

Newbee. My sister is in the fashion business and was in Paris last year when she became sick with a fever and could not leave her hotel. She told me that a nurse from a nearby clinic came to her hotel room and, after talking with a doctor on a cell phone, treated her there. Sis told me that the nurse used a digital thermometer and took her temp rectally. The next day the nurse came and checked on my sister and took her rectal temp again.

My sister and brother in law live in France, so I know a bit about their healthcare system. No doubt Debra's sister was surprised how the nurse took her temperature. Sister must have been running a high temp. They don't always take rectals, but suppositories are very common, even for stuff like sore throats!!
