Subject: Why AT40 is 8 days behind the R&R chart...
In reply to: Dave 's message, "Re: Why doesn't Casey mention the chart date anymore?" on 12:51:09 05/01/02 Wed

It's mainly a matter of AT40's production timetable combined with the way R&R dates their charts (as opposed to Billboard). Take this upcoming weekend's AT40 for example: the airdate will be May 4-5. The airplay data used is obtained by Mediabase 24/7 (hi, Rob!) for the week of April 15-21 (Monday thru Sunday). R&R takes this data to compile the charts that Casey uses, and the charts are posted on their website on Wednesday, April 24. The actual printed magazine is dated April 26 (the "official" chart date) as this is the day that most subscribers receive their copies. Meanwhile, AT40's staffers have been busy writing their stories and getting ready to record Casey, which happens sometime during the week of April 22-26 (I keep forgetting exactly which days Casey does which show, but it's during that week). The show is then edited, burned to CD, and sent out to radio stations where it airs the following weekend (May 4-5). (I've probably screwed up a few details, but close enough. Billboard, by the way, uses a similar monitoring period for their airplay charts from BDS, and updates their website on Thursday, April 25, and mails out their printed magazines to arrive on Monday, April 29, with an "official" chart date of "the week ending May 4", which is why the original AT40 was always in sync with the Billboard chart date... except, of course, for the earliest shows, but we won't get into that here.)
