been finishing up things around here.
Had too much whiskey last night, and i cut my hair off w/ some sissors. Got up this morning, i had to straighten it all out, so now its short. heh..heh..
Now, im sobered up and put this pic together,
i tried Spar Varnish, then some poly-saeler in a spray can.
i got the rammer stuck in the rammer hole on the gun, but got it out, and sanded it down a bit for a good fit.

Cleared up today and supposed to rain tomorrow. So I loaded the ASM Dragoon late and went to the range. Only fired 12 shots . . . 40 grains FFFG Goex, .457 round balls, Remington #11 caps, and RMC cap guards.

The cylinder face has very slightly bevelled chamber mouths, so the balls started to go in but still shaved lead rings that were thicker than my regular .44. Didn't seem like the chambers would take much reaming if I want to stick with standard .457 balls. One thing about this ASM hammer is it doesn't have that big hammer face slot for anchoring on the cylinder safety pins. It has a small hole drilled in the face that fits over the pins. Dang, that is fine by me and I wish all my 1860's had that, even if it isn't original. The hole leaves a lot more hammer face on the cap.

Used a standing two-hand modified Weaver stance at 15 yards and liked the sound and smoke. Works for me, ha, ha, ha.

Took one vidio of the gun firing in my wrecked left hand while I struggled to hold the camera in my mostly paralyzed right hand. Checked the instructions and found out how to isolate a single photo of the gun first firing. Got that idea from Dave I think it was. Thanks Dave.

Got a couple of nice photos next page.

Some of you Rogers & Spencer lovers might like to look at these photos.

This was an old weathered London Grey R&S that needed new internals when I got it. It was one of those GP purchases that wasn't such a great buy, but I decided to fix it up, ha, ha. So much work just to sell it for less than I put into it. It looks proud now though, with good timing and tight lockup. By, by little beauty . . . now my credit card will be fully paid off, ha, ha. The beat goes on.

Did some work for a good friend of mine and got a nice rifle I really want to finish. Thinking of selling the revolver below to pay for it. Inlay is 24k gold and has been lightly used and very well cared for. What do you think its worth?

Last night I watched "A few dollars more" in Youtube.
Of course I watched it but it was a long long time ago.
Oh, I love it !
One of the virtues of Western movies is that hundreds of cars don't have to be blown up or you don't have go far like universe.
You can feel the true human sweat, not computer graphic for fake scenes.
I love the sound of walking from boots with spurs, like to see Locomotives, trouble in Saloon and so on.
I wish I could live even one day in this old Western time. You may say it's only my fantacy, factually it's very wild and dangerous. But we are already living in big chaotic time toughly, arn't we ?
This country had been built based on blood shed from these American ancesters. Whether they were from England or Ireland, this is their country, no place to go back.
Some modern emigrants have no "turn their back to the sea" sprit. They try out but it doesn't work, run away to where they came from or get kicked out.
Hey Fuzzy, tonight I am running my Wagon from Wells Fargo bank with my double barrel shotgun, can you please chase and rob me ?

I bought a box of 100 .490 roundballs at Kittery for $1.00. They had a frosty crust on them. They looked like candy. I melted them down and made some .454 balls. Nice and shiny. But, they rammed down very hard. They still shaved a ring but I'm wondering if they were wheelweight lead. Regular, old lead doesn't frost over..or does it?
Also, I actually got four or five TapOCaps to ignite the power in my 1860 .44.

I was just responding to an E-mail from a friend that I met out in New Mexico when I was there a couple of months ago for my wife's friend's funeral. He was talking about his Taurus 1911PT that had broken the ambidextrous safety after only 80 rounds or so. He had been having a hard time getting it back from repair. He just now got it back and put it on consignment because he was fed up with it. He told me of another one where the slide stop broke and the shooter got the slide in the face, after only the first round, new out of the box! I suggested he stick with revolvers, but if he was stuck on the 1911, maybe he should look at a USFA. I started to come to a realization that I think is worth sharing. I'll just repeat here what I said to him in my E-mail.
I have maybe 30 firearms, many of them antique. I have some Italian reproductions of famous "old west" guns. The Italians are fine weapons and indeed one of my favourites is the 1851 Navy. I also have an Italian (Pietta) Single Action Army. At the same time I have an 1851 Navy Second Generation Colt, made by Colt, in the US. I have an 1860 Second Generation Colt, made by Colt, in the US. I have a 1966 Colt Python and a United States Fire Arms Single Action Army, both made here in the US. Without question, the American made weapons that I have are superior products to any of the Italians.
I fired Smokin' Gun's Police Service Six and loved it. Many others of you out there will attest to the quality of Ruger Firearms. My USFA and Colt Python are outstanding. I just read on gunblast.com about Freedom Arms model 83 that is chambered for the .500 Wyoming Express. Jeff Quinn (in 2006) says Freedom Arms is the best revolver in the world. Go to gunblast.com and read his report, if you haven't already.
Of course there are plenty of mediocre American gun manufacturers and many high quality European ones as well. This isn't entirely about flag waving. It's a lot about consumerism. Many Americans have a love affair with their gun. American manufacturers who put their heart into high quality products, to compete in free enterprise, cannot be beat.
Buy American....Dudes, you'll never regret buying the best.

Well, not only does S&S Firearms not have any engraved Remingtons in stock, the Euroarms office in Winchester, Virginia doesn't have any either, and doesn't expect to get any!

All Phil at S&S has in stock is a Remington Navy. Armies aren't due in for another 10 days, he said.

So, uh ... I bought the Navy.

Not exactly what I wanted, but oh well ...
