Modrin caps is iffy critters. Not much better'n a hunnert yahrs ago. Fer plinkin' misfires are just frustratin'. If yer shots hafta count, ya need ta seat the beasties on the nipples.

Two ways ta do that:

1. Use a dowel and push the caps on with some force.

2. Lower the hammer (gently) onto the cap and push firmly on the hammer spur.

An unintended discharge is possible doing this, so make sure the muzzle is pointed in a politically correct direction.

Takes longer to load this way, but cap reliability goes 'way up.

I`ve got a 1851 Navy that has a very light hammer spring ..I started to replace the spring for a stiffer one ...but cocking it with the light spring felt so nice I just didn`t want to loose the feel ..anyway it will not pop a CCI cap of any kind ...BUT when I tried my Remington # 10 caps ..fires first time ..every time . So sometimes the answer is as simple as the right caps. No doubt a heavyer hammer spring would help keep the cap fragments out of the works , but so far I`ve not had a problem with that on this Navy and it`s a 36 cal Navy made by Pietta .
