I had to de-rust the cylinder which had enough light rust to strip it. Unstick 6 stuck nipples. Lower the arbor that canted up and made it all but impossible to get the barrel on once taken off. The arbor actually had to be flexed downward to get the barrel on. That loosened it some too. Straightened it so the barrel goes on easy and tightened it up.I first had to remove it and it's lock pin.
There's more to do but I'll get to it someday soon I hope. It's a nice Centaure and was described as excellent condition. Was it. No. Will it be. Hope so. Pic next pg.

Well this news lit the fuse in my mind as to how to properly dispose of all the B/P subs I have .
I quit useing anything but the real deal back a few years ago and ended up with five 1 lb jugs of the subs ..all kinds .( many flavors )
So I can`t think of a better way , and help the guy out with his need for more power .
If I can remember to take the camera , I`ll give a nice range report on chunking beer cans into orbit ...this should be fun .....more comming soon .

SG-thanks for the advice on checking out the colts. I checked out the pair of 1860 colts. They are Piettas. They had been left loaded in the basement when the owner passed away. The gentleman who was selling them for his widow said he tried to fire them but only 2 chambers went off. They were in very good condition on the outside and looked tight. They were brass trimmed with white grips. One cylinder wouldn't lock on one chamber and the other cylinder locked up completely while I was cycling the action. The nipples were corroded. Since I don't have any experience repairing them and I didn't want to offend the seller with a low offer, I let them pass.

I finally finished my Claro Walnut stock for my Sharps. It is a piece of quarter sawn Claro Walnut from Northern Cal. The quarter sawn is the way they turn the wood to cut it, that is what gives the wood the stripes. The Claro Walnut is a very porus Walnut, it had a lot of pores that had to be filled before the finishing process could begin. I found a product that is called Pilkington's Classic Gun Finish that worked really well for filling the pores. You put this finish on and lightly wet sand the wood and it fills the pores with the dust and liquid. It takes about 4 times of wet sanding to fill all the pores. Once all the pores is filled then you can start to finish the stock to suit your taste. I took this stock all the way to a Gloss finish, it looked like it had been dipped in liquid glass. I finally decided on a low gloss or satin finsh and took it back down to that level of shine. The gloss finish really did show off the grain and stripes in the wood, but it didn't look good on the sharps, it just looked too modern for the rifle. I played with a lot of different finishes and done a lot of experiments. I wasn't in a hurry so I used this project to learn and try diffent products and procedures.

I found a shop in NH with some pretty cool originals. One was an 1860 .44 in original nickel finish. All matching numbers but no address or cylinder scene due to the nickel finish. Selling for about $1100.
They also had a cased 1849 with the history of the owner. The gun was in pretty tough shape and it was missing the cylinder, but included in the accessories was a chunk of gold from the CA Gold Rush. Over $2000.
They had a Sharps carbine in great shape - $2200.
A Pond cartridge revolver for $500.
An Enfield Tower rifle that was used at Gettysburg (of course) and a picture of the original Yankee (you know, the side that won) owner in unifrom - $1900.
I also saw a copy of Beldens HISTORY OF THE COLT REVOLVER at another store for $25. Perfect condition. In fact, I might go back and get that book. I'd like to get some of those guns, too but...

The seller said he wouldn't accept a return on such a fine gun. He said I should contact Pietta if I had a question on acceptable tolerances, ha, ha. I bet Madcratebuilder could fix up this little guy in jiffy.

So anyone want to buy this for my original Gun Broker auction bid of $176, which includes shipping to you. That means I am out the shipping cost from the seller to me Plus the shipping from me to you.

Received my .36 cal Pietta today. 6 chambers align with the bore, just a few handling marks where someone had trouble gettting the wedge out before. Sticky from dried out grease but lookin good. Turns out the arbor front was over 3/32" shorter than the barrel arbor hole, providing no support except on the arbor sides and the two front frame studs (which aren't very tight).

I've just been through something of a nightmare with a brand new Pietta 1860 that I got on sale at Cabelas. I didn't return it, because I thought it was a challenge and good kitchen table gunsmithing practice. Been tellin my troubles to Wayne about everything I ran into with that one, asking advice. I don't give guns names, but I decided to call my Cabelas on sale 1860 . . . EL DIABLO.

So I don't feel like messin with the arbor on this one. I would have my gunsmith weld some steel on the front of the arbor and then file it down bit by bit until it was right - but I've done it before and I don't feel like doin' it again right now. I'm calling it quits on this one before it sucks me in, ha, ha.

The listing didn't say anything about returns. I hope they'll take it back, because El Diablo plum wore me out for now.

Got my Colt 62 Pocket Model TRAPPER back today from my gunsmith friend.
I had him go through it. I ordered a new bolt for it from VTI and had him install it.
The cylinder just seemed a bit loose on it.
I had him fit a new bolt for it.
I bought an Uberti bolt for it. He said it was oversize for the gun.
The cylinder slots are smaller on it, than his Uberti 62 Pocket Navy.
Anyways, they really ground the heck outa the bolt, and havin him step the new bolt to fit the frame window, works alot better. Nice & tight.
I'm fitting a new set of Pearl white color grips on it soon. That is my next project.
I will post pics when I'm done w/ it.
Gonna restain my woodgrips on my Pietta 1860 Mdl also

Stamped UB, serial number under the loading lever and frame. Any ideas, price, cautions, things to covet and things to avoid???

Well not a real one but a cool old print to hang in my new batchelor pad. My mom is an artist and reconized the name right off as some big time painter. I found it in an antique mall and just liked the print and frame no matter who did it. The print is actually full scale size to a Remington Army. pic next page.

Hello,
How are you guys? I have a few questions wondering if there was any help out there. I was doing some renovations in my old beach house in the Rockaway section of Queens New York, I had an old bent 32, revolver and a colt black powder revolver with a NYC police insignia on it as well as colt logo, it is well faded and barely visible, but it is indeed authentic, serial number seems to be worn and very visible. wondering if anyone would know what the estimated value for this pistol would be?

Looking at the Traditions website.
I was interested in buying one of these to load my 62 Colt Pocket Trapper model.
http://www.traditionsfirearms.com/eshop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=A1310
I emailed the lady, and they have no estimated time of order delivery.
I see there is a 6 shot cylinder in the picture.
Is the 62 pocket model cylinder arbor hole, the same diameter as 1851, 1861 Colt's?
If not, this loader wouldn't work for me.
I don't own another 36 to compare. I had all 44,s.

I have been thinking about converting my 1860 Belgium to gated conversion if I can find a cylinder to fit ...I don`t know if one for a Uberti will fit it or not ....I don`t own a Uberti 1860 .
I don`t shoot cap and balls much anymore , fingers are just too damn stiff to mess with it .
I`m lucky to still be able to stuff patched round balls into my front stuffers .
So the 45 Schofields have been my pistol main stay for sometime now ... much lighter punch than the 45 Colts ..better for me and the pistols I still shoot .
Most all of the 45 Colt conversion cylinders will shoot the Schofield rounds also .
I`ve had a hankerin to buy one of the factory conversions from Taylors ....but I got to thinking my Belgium Colt might make a better one .
Wayner ....any thoughts on this ? Have you thought about this , or done it ?

Got and installed my Tombstone "Ivory", grips today. And I don't like to brag....but none of you have an 11 year old kid that could've done any better LOL!! Had to shoot it in the back yard "just to see". Last (& first), time I shot the R&S w/ the conversion cylinder I was all over the place, might have been cause the grip split on the 1st round and kinda blew my concentration. This time, I was shooting at 20yds, again, offhand and single handed. The first 2 skimmed the top of the can and the last 3 killed it. 454rnfp w/ 8.5g Unigue. God, I love the recoil, miss the smell of Holy Black though, gotta try loadin' some of those next.
