Alright, welp...I should be gettin my new colt next week and I'm tryin to decide what kinda dress I'm gonna put on her...aka...a holster. I'm lookin at the cheap ones and quick drw is not a concern. I was thinkin crossdraw but everything i see is for a 7.5in barrel...wont work for the 1860 colt I'm guessin. What do ya'll use? I have a hunter double loop, thats for sassy (1858 Remington), and a cheap crossdraw for my brasser. My first 1860 colt has no holster. I like them to each have their own dress ya know?

Course i always take em off anyway so i dont know why it matters what they wear! ;O)

Check out GB#139090911. It is listed as a 2nd Gen. Colt Walker. It doesn't have the colt patent on the left side of the frame. I emailed the guy and told him I thought he was mistaken on it being a 2nd gen. because the patent was not there. He schooled me with the fact that all 2nd gen. Colts didn't have the patent on the left side, but all the 3rd gen. did have it. He has seen 2 or 3 other 2nd gen. Walkers that did not have the patent either and was listed for $1000 also.

I just looked back at the pics. he has posted and the numbers on the trigger guard was stamped with a different set of dies. I have my mind made up, what do the Ole Coot experts think?

UNIONTOWN, Pa. — A Pennsylvania history buff who recreates firearms from old wars accidentally fired a 2-pound cannonball through the wall of his neighbor's home.

Fifty-four-year-old William Maser fired a cannonball Wednesday evening outside his home in Georges Township that ricocheted and hit a house 400 yards away.

The cannonball, about two inches in diameter, smashed through a window and a wall before landing in a closet. Authorities say nobody was hurt.

State police charged Maser with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

No one answered the phone Friday at Maser's home. He tells WPXI-TV recreating 19th century cannons is a longtime hobby. He says he is sorry and he will stop shooting them on his property, about 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

My grandson bought an Enfield .58 cal musket to use in Civil War renactments and has fired it several times, but failed to take it apart and clean it properly. I was going to help him clean it properly today, but was unable to unscrew the nipple to clean and lubricate the nipple and threads. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to remove the nipple without having to drill it out?
Thanks

Here, in MA, of all places, some TV stations are running ads for Henry rifles. I can't remember a gun ad on TV, ever. Lou Imperato is the president or CEO (wasn't he involved with the 2nd or 3rd Generation Colts?) My son has a Henry .22 - great gun. Keep those ads coming.
Also, the state of Texas is getting good press here in MA, at least on some radio stations. It seems that Texas is doing great economically, and people still have their rights in Texas. One radio talk show host said the other day that if you want any type of government handout, do not go to Texas - they offer little help for those who don't want to work. Texas sounds like a great place.

The ramrod on my Rocky Mountain Hawken does not set tightly in its place under the barrel. This isn't really a problem, but I was wondering if there are any tricks to firm things up. I'm thinking of bending the ramrod a little. Are there any tricks to doing this. It's a pretty mediocre piece of wood, but I don't want to break it.

Quoted ""There's that spring that goes on the Manhattans or the Coopers ,or one of those copy cat Colts from the old days that, that kept caps from falling in the action or hanging up. Just a simple spring steel spring that wraps around the outside of the recoil shields ring and held on by one screw. Stopped hang ups of caps on those guns. The hammer hit the spring and the spring hit the cap and the cap went bang."
Diagram for patent see page 2...
You mean like this one?
These improved and double action Colts that Cooper Arms that had a patent for Capshields seem like they'd a done the trick...

7. If your house is on fire, your guns are the first
assets you will run out with ?(after your family)
8. If heaven allows you enter but not with your guns, you
will not enter ?
9. Do you ever get lovesick because you can not buy gun

I would find it interesting to hear feedback about an idea I have.
Short and sweet.....
Imagine a cap&baller with a Kirst conversion backplate with the gate behind a cylinder that looks like a cartridge cylinder but in essence is not....not bored thru since it is a percussion with intregal design to accept small pistol primers. No nipples,no caps...just some holes for small pistol primers held in by being in close proximity to the backplate. Cylinder not bored thru(I said that already but want to make sure it's understood) just holes for small pistol primers.
Why? Well it would be a cap&baller that looked just like a cartridge conversion but was still percussion. It wouldn't have any trouble with caps getting the gun action jammed up. It would be popular in England where cartridge guns are hard to own. It would look cool like that gun Cimarron has,"Gun with no Name". Trouble free fast shooting for Cowboy Shooters.
Open the gate to insert the small pistl primers. Still use the loading lever.
I asked a designer about it and found out it is already patented insomeform or another.
Probably in the "small pistol primer" form.
There could be another form of the same design that took short nipples and standard caps with the caps in a hole where the caps are trapped by the backplate and enclosed completely in a hole where they would not be able to catch on anything or fall in the action ect.ect.
So there's two renditions of the same design so if a patent is on one type the other type can be produced.
One type uses integral small pistol primer holes and the other uses short nipples and standard caps surrounded in a hole and trapped by the backplate(conversion plate).
Oneother idea to get feedback on.
The 22 cal. conversion kit. The backplate and gate and cylinder can be imagined easy enough so I don't have to explain that. It's the ability to have a 22cal barrel insert that works in thecap&baller barrels.
It would be a brass fitting that screws on the 22 insert barrel to set the headspace so the 22 barrel can be adjusted tobe even with the breech end of the barrel. Any barrel. The fitting would screw on the insert barrel and have that nylon in the threads like those lock nuts. Adjust the insert barrel to be flush with the breech end of a barrel. The Colts would insert from the breech end and the Remingtons from the muzzle end where the brass adjusting nut would then be screwed on the breech end of the insert barrel. The adjuster screw would have a coned type ring on it that would fit inside any forcing cone to stop the insert barrel from going forward.
The inseert barrels would have rings of form rubber stuff that would compress when insereted in a barrel and hold it in the center. The Lee Sharver 22 cal. barrel insert for Sharps rifles uses the foam rings like that to hold the inseret barrel in the center. The foam compresses when inserted and springs back out when the insert is removes. it works as the Lee Sharver Sharps inserts prove.
Well what's ya thunk bout the ideas?
A couple of cool things or a couple of duds?
The 22 cal. conversion kit would be a real winner I think. It could be made in .17 cal. too. Or 32 S&W. Or use the liner design for the 38 Navy conversions where the barrels don't need re-lined because of using the insert design.
The Hybred conversion that ain't a conversion because it's just a more efficient percussion would be a winner too I think. It's already patented I found out. I don't know what version but I think it's the small pistol primer version. What a bummer to find out yer idea was already patented. ha ha ha
Next I'm gonna think of a way to make a pocket knife that has a hundred utensils on it. I'll call it the "Polish Army Knife". ha ha ha ha
I could invent the square wheel too so your girlfriend could sit on yer lap when you went for a car ride and play Humpty Dumpty or Bump the Uglies without breakin a sweat. ha ha ha ha ha

My original idea was a birds head style grip. Bending the cast brass grip frame was the plan, I could see that becoming a lot more time than I had planned. So, I had some time yesterday and did some sanding on the oem frame. Basically all I did was round off the flare at the bottom of the grip and rounded the corners some.
I'm very happy with both the look and the feel of the grip. Really made a change on how it fits your hand. I like this feel much better than a birdshead.
I have another hour of final sanding and polish. This is about ready for the electroless nickle plate.
I want to plate part of the backstrap/trigger guard, but witch one??? Or both??? Suggestions??

I just got a disturbing email and phone call that prompt's this post. I've been workin' for about 1/2 a year with a fella from Australia on making a Walker conversion w/ shoulder stock and a 16" bbl,it was to be marketed and named the "LRE", Long Range Express. He's a newbie to bp and was building a nice collection of collectable firearms (Heritage Model's, etc),on the side. Unfortunately, he just had brain tumor surgery and was given 6-12 months to live. The LRE project is done with, and his wife wants "arcticap" over on The High Road (THR) to liquidate the collection which is still here in the States. Below is a thread showin' most of what's offered. If any of you are interested in prices or what might not be listed, please contact "arcticap", Steve, on the THR forum. Thanks.
