road and sewer projects, Three more road, plus river, bridge and damn projects will be finished by the end of Nov and by next fall. All of these much needed projects had been waiting on frozen federal money until the stimulus for "shovel ready projects" become available.
I live in a small rural city surrounded by farmland dotted with manufacturing plants that have closed in the past 8 years. The shovel ready stimulus made an impact in my community with not only the projects now being on track but businesses seeing increased sales, 23 locals being able to pick up some work with 10 or so getting permanent jobs with the construction companies contracted to do the work. Those companies were near(50 mile radius) local private companies that needed the work. Several homes and families were saved from foreclosure due to those jobs. Five men, some with young families, have purchased homes and land to build on in this community. Two of the construction companies have become partners and have won four of seven new bids in surrounding communities that will keep them busy and hiring more workers for several years.
The domino effect created by the shovel ready stimulus in my community benefited not only the infrastructure but many people, homes, and businesses as well. Surely my community is not the only one to witness and benefit from the shovel ready stimulus.
