(2007 - incarceration rate by race) "The custody incarceration rate for black males was 4,618 per 100,000. Hispanic males were incarcerated at a rate of 1,747 per 100,000. Compared to the estimated numbers of black, white, and Hispanic males in the U.S. resident population, black males (6 times) and Hispanic males (a little more than 2 times) were more likely to be held in custody than white males. At midyear 2007 the estimated incarceration rate of white males was 773 per 100,000.

OK, let me explain it to you. Even though whites offend at about a sixth of the rate of blacks, almost half the prisin population is white simply because there are many more of them.
BTW, I'm all for making the penalties for possession of powder cocaine match those for crack cocaine. That would bring an end to the weekend prison stays for Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.
I can't see sending up some kid for 5 years for crack possession while a spoiled rich kid gets a few months probation and fine for cocaine.
If you want to know what kind of privilege there is in this country it is the same as everywhere - rich privilege. The rich and powerful get different justice than the poor. They always have and they always will and it is color blind.
