Subject: Just a suggestion to look at feises a different way
In reply to: IDMom-WesternRegion 's message, "Just a general poll... does your dancer (or if you're the dancer) hate feising? more..." on 07:48:35 06/06/17 Tue

My dancer is fairly new to OC and after placing in a couple of feises, hasn't placed. She started to feel her confidence drop so we decided that instead of looking at overall results, we would look at comments. Now, before each feis, she decides the one thing she's going to focus on. For example, which comments is she getting regularly? Is it timing? Is it crossing? Is it off heels? Focus on that one part of her dance. Then, at the next feis, see what the comments are.

Break it down. Create your own goals for each feis, then celebrate your own little victories. My dancer is now building her confidence up again and feeling pleased with how she's dancing, regardless of her overall placement.

I also told my dancer that if it's not fun and she's not loving it, we're not doing it!

  • Part of the issue might be that she's in PC. (more)- -- none, 09:56:19 06/07/17 Wed
  • ^^I think the PC rat race is true. However, things aren't all roses when you get to OC. No real chance to relax (more) -- OC mom, 10:42:47 06/07/17 Wed
  • I agree completely. My DD has been in PC for over two years. Has one win, and a perennial 2nd place winner. The pressure to get that last first place to move to OC has been stressful. Every feis, hoping this is "it" and then not getting it is taking its toll. So, we've taken a 6-month break from competing. Focusing on perfecting little things. -- PCU14, 09:16:35 06/08/17 Thu
