Subject: All larger cities have shadier areas. Many years of feising and majors both in the states and overseas. Never once did we encounter anything really horrible.

Of course there is a level of reason that should go along with families. Each family is different as to what they feel is a big issue. Personally, the most concerned I have ever been was in Montreal where a homeless confused man starting walking close behind me. If you use common sense and reason, you and your family should be fine. Kids should be supervised and paid attention to. If they are walking down the street with you and someone is acting drunk or strange, walk away. We spent time in NOLA years ago an had no issues at all.
