Subject: Unfortunately, once again, you are the one in error. As one (of many, I am sure), I am not associated with the committee, but did weigh in as I've run/co-run many large, subscription events like this and understand the difficulty in doing so. The attacking came from the start, the OP came here to lash out and bash. That was the clear intent.

From experience, the committee members have far more important things to be doing right now than to read the nonsense that you, and what? A couple of others have spewed forth here and take the time to respond.
What do you think they are doing a week and a half out from an event that attracts over 4,000/5,000 dancers and their families? They are putting out larger fires than you could imagine - they've no time for the boards - don't know of any TC who truly responds on these, but have to love those who claim they are TCs (lol, right).
Besides working in their own professions, because many ID teachers actually have "real" jobs, this is all a side passion for them, (and this is also from experience), they have "volunteered" on behalf of their region to organize all of this - for the rest of us. No. They are not professional planners, they are not experts in hotel management, nor are they expert in technology. They are simply volunteers.
They have a mountain in front of them, they knew it and did not undertake any of this lightly, because they knew that people like you and others here would toss the slings and arrows their way - and you have. But then again, like several of the posts tried to get across to you and the others, it's not about the one, or even two attending, it's about ALL. All 7000+/- and accommodating them to the best they are able.
Many of you lost sight of that and that is what was sad in reading the indignation and yes, the entitlement in many of the posts that demanded or were accusatory in their nature - as if the committee deliberately set about to inconvenience those who, with all good intentions, to see a relative, or this one, or that one, the day they arrived. It was not a deliberate action, but one (and again, from personal experience), made with consideration of the whole and of management of the wristbands.
I will not pretend to know what was going on behind the scenes, but can only imagine that there may have been some sort of issue with hotels distributing them, or ensuring there were enough bands for all, or even in sorting. But a decision was made based on their best judgement. Then when level minded, reasonable people contacted them directly, they made the adjustment to accommodate those who would like that accommodation - and did so promptly. Yet, that wasn't good enough for some.
As for the wristbands themselves? Well, they are needed. We all know those who cheat the system and who want to best others, either openly or sneakily. Have seen this, too, first hand in the events I have worked with. Have seen where some lie about reservation numbers, borrowing from friends, have seen where people pack 8 people to a room and then say they have two rooms, and want extra IDs (in our organization). Have seen where there are misspellings on reservations that led to mistakes in counts, have seen where people register, but they are not the names on the reservations, and then even more confusion takes place. Or those who booked through discount sites and trying to pass off that they booked in the organization links.
Can only imagine the nightmare going on right now in sorting out all of our wristbands; attempting to cross reference reservations across 14 hotels and thousands of reservations. I would not want to be one of those volunteers trying to make sense of all of that.
For the argument by some as to why the blocks are needed under the presumption that "all the hotels will sell out" anyway. That is a fallacy. The cut-rate hotels do not connect into a convention center, they do not work with conventions, nor do they support. Without the block, or those hotels who support convention centers, the organizers would have to charge exorbitant entry fees for each competitor, along with door fees. Can only imagine the hue and cry by families having to pay $300 or $400 just to enter a dancer. And to secure the number of halls for competition over the course of five or six days? That's what it would come down to doing. Think about it for a moment, is that what you want to do? Then, the hotels are at liberty to raise the room rates even more, as there is no need to provide a block rate.
Like I said, I've run a few things in my life. And some of these insights may help some of you understand why others, like me, did comment that some of you were jumping off in the wrong direction with regards to the committee.
In all the years (and there have been many on many) we've attended (from simply just NANS way back when), we have discovered there are two regions who have always stepped up the level of running events. One is the ECR, the other, MidAtlantic. MidAtlantic has been the leader in so much of this. They are quick on communication, ensuring everyone found reasonable/varied lodgings within walking distance of the venue, and found unique places - this time "west" of the Mississippi (albeit, just west). The region has put out information about family-friendly activities and so much more. Yet, all that was tossed to the way-side by some of you. You truly missed that they were trying to work for all.
The bottom line is that the committee (whoever they are), are doing their best. They are responding to people. I am sure you remember the Chicago fiasco, between all the competitions up and moving from room to room, a logistical nightmare for many families, to having to cross the highway for awards in a smaller hall. Or the Providence nightmare of scheduling issues and driving in from another state (and dare I say, patches). Or the Orlando transportation issues from hotels not on the shuttle routes and the four hour wait for wristbands. Just to name a few organizational problems for those committees. Think about how some of the decisions in those few examples went and consider, why.
Unfortunately, behind the guise of anonymity on a public forum board, people do feel freer to say things they would never say in person or even email, and that's even more of the problem. As it was said before, posting here only causes animosity and doesn't really solve anything. The best course is always to direct your concerns to those who need to truly see and hear them. The people who frequent these forums, can't and won't. All they do is fuel the fire by fanning the flames.
Consider those who are running this, consider the faces behind the program book, wristband, dancer numbers, results, and what-not stations that will be set up - and remember - they, too are parents, like you and who have volunteered to be there to help. They don't need people yelling at them for what they don't control, or fielding complaints about things they didn't set up or prepare. Hopefully, the distribution of the wristbands will go smoothly, that everyone was able to submit their information correctly and timely, and that there are few issues to slow any lines down. But remember those parent faces behind the tables, try to smile and be understanding.
They are volunteers, and are doing their best to help (just as if, I am sure, you would do).
