probably save money. The Event group that they use usually gets paid 2 ways - from the hotel rooms that are booked from this event and by the organization itself. There are several ways to work a contract, but often if enough rooms are booked, the "kickback" to the Event group pays for their services. There are many ways to negotiate these deals, and this one puts a large burden on the organizers and attendees. Personally, when I found a condition that was onerous or poorly received or required lots of manpower (like wristbands) I usually found other ways to manage the situation.
