Subject: doing some strength training with weights added is fine, but why would you add more stress and strain to already overused joints. PLEASE DON'T. (more)

This idea comes up from time to time over the years. I checked with a pediatrician, a physical trainer and a sports medicine doc and they were all HORRIFIED at the idea of kids doing high impact dancing in weights.

If you are doing on the floor strengthening, like leg lifts or the like, then they thought that was OK in moderation, and with weights appropriate to the individual dancers core strength... but they all said, "no No NO" to actually dancing in weights.

Irish Dancing is already punishing to the dancers joints, don't add weights and make it MORE taxing. There are other ways to train.
